We use optional Google Analytics cookies to understand how people use our website. We ask first, and refusing is as easy as agreeing.
How we measure visits
We use Google Analytics 4 only with your consent. It records the pages you visit, how long you stay, how you arrived here, your device and browser type, and your approximate location. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses. Google uses the IP address to work out an approximate location before discarding it.
We use Google as our processor to handle this information for us. For visitors in the European Economic Area (EEA), the provider is Google Ireland Limited. Google may process the information outside the EEA under the safeguards in its data processing terms. We do not use Google Signals or advertising personalisation, and we do not send enquiry form details to Analytics.
Your choice
We load nothing from Google for analytics and set no analytics cookies until you allow it: choose Allow all, or open Choose, tick Count my visit and press Save choices. No thanks leaves analytics off. We use your answer on later visits for up to six months. After that, or sooner if what we ask you to agree to changes, we ask again, and analytics stays off, with its cookies deleted, until you answer. You can withdraw your consent at any time: open Cookie settings, in the footer of any page or on our cookies page, untick Count my visit and press Save choices, or choose No thanks to refuse both. We stop further analytics collection in this browser and delete its analytics cookies. This does not undo information already sent while you had agreed.
What we keep in your browser
- _ga helps us distinguish visits from different browsers. Its default lifetime is 2 years.
- _ga_KDR3Z8K7J2 is _ga_ followed by our property's code. It keeps track of a visit, known as a session. Its default lifetime is also 2 years.
- rft-cookie-consent-v2 is our consent record in localStorage, not a cookie. It holds your answer for analytics and your answer for maps, when you gave them, and a code for the version of this wording you answered. We use it for up to six months, and you can change it at any time. Clearing your browser data removes it. It is not sent to us.
The analytics cookies can be renewed on visits you have allowed. Your browser may remove them sooner. If your browser cannot save your choice, it applies on this page. We try to remove any earlier saved answer so other pages ask again. If that removal also fails, other pages may still use the earlier answer.
How long analytics information is kept
We keep user and event data in Google Analytics for 2 months. This retention period covers the detailed data; it does not apply to combined statistical reports, which Google can keep for longer. Cookie lifetimes are separate from this period. You can contact us about information already collected using our privacy request form.
The maps on our Contact page
Our Contact page has maps from Google. They load only if you have allowed maps, or one at a time when you press Load this map once. Loading a map sends Google your IP address and browser details, and Google may set or read cookies of its own, under Google's own privacy policy. This is a separate choice from analytics: you can allow either without the other. To change either, open Cookie settings, tick or untick it and press Save choices. Turning maps off, or pressing Hide map, takes a map away but does not delete cookies Google has already set; you can clear those in your browser settings. Load this map once is not remembered.
Other things your browser keeps
Your browser may keep copies of our photographs, typefaces, stylesheet and scripts to make pages load faster. We do not use these copies to identify you. You can clear them in your browser settings.
