The short version: we measure visits with Google Analytics only if you allow it. The maps on our Contact page load from Google only if you allow them, or ask for one with its own button. We use your saved choices for up to six months. We keep no website database, and anything you send through our enquiry form arrives as an email. You can change your choices at any time using Cookie settings. The rest of this page explains that in full.

When you are only looking at the site
We ask before measuring your visit. Our photographs, typefaces and page features come from this website. Google Analytics loads only after you agree, and a map on our Contact page loads from Google only if you have allowed maps or press its button. We do not use advertising or sell your information. Our Facebook and Instagram links take you to those sites only if you choose to follow them.
Like every website, ours runs on a server, and that server keeps a short technical record of the requests it receives. That record can include your IP address, the page you asked for, the time, and which browser you used. We use it to keep the site running and to deal with abuse or attacks. It is deleted automatically after a short period, we do not use it to work out who you are, and it is never joined up with anything else about you.
Google maps on our Contact page
Our Contact page has Google maps of our addresses. A map loads only if you have allowed maps, or if you press Load this map once beside it. To allow maps, choose Allow all, or open Choose, tick Show Google maps and press Save choices. The banner and the page say what that means before you do. When a map loads, your browser loads it from Google, so Google receives your IP address and details of your browser, and Google may set or read cookies of its own. Google's own privacy policy covers what it does with them. We receive nothing from the map. Allowing maps does not allow Google Analytics.
If you allow maps, we use that answer on later visits for up to six months, and the maps load by themselves when you open the Contact page. After that, or sooner if what we ask you to agree to changes, we ask again. You can change your mind at any time: open Cookie settings, untick Show Google maps and press Save choices. This removes any open maps and stops them loading by themselves on later visits; it does not undo information already sent to Google or remove cookies Google has already stored, which you can clear in your browser settings. You can still load a map with its own button.
Load this map once opens that one map until you hide it or leave the page, and changes none of your saved choices. Hide map takes a map off the page until you show it again or leave; it is not a way of turning maps off, which you do under Cookie settings. If you would rather not load one, the Open in Google Maps link beside each map takes you to Google Maps itself, and our addresses are written out on the page.
How we measure visits
We use Google Analytics 4 only with your consent. It records the pages you visit, how long you stay, how you arrived here, your device and browser type, and your approximate location. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses. Google uses the IP address to work out an approximate location before discarding it.
We use Google as our processor to handle this information for us. For visitors in the European Economic Area (EEA), the provider is Google Ireland Limited. Google may process the information outside the EEA under the safeguards in its data processing terms. We do not use Google Signals or advertising personalisation, and we do not send enquiry form details to Analytics.
Your choice
We load nothing from Google for analytics and set no analytics cookies until you allow it: choose Allow all, or open Choose, tick Count my visit and press Save choices. No thanks leaves analytics off. We use your answer on later visits for up to six months. After that, or sooner if what we ask you to agree to changes, we ask again, and analytics stays off, with its cookies deleted, until you answer. You can withdraw your consent at any time: open Cookie settings, in the footer of any page or on our cookies page, untick Count my visit and press Save choices, or choose No thanks to refuse both. We stop further analytics collection in this browser and delete its analytics cookies. This does not undo information already sent while you had agreed.
What we keep in your browser
- _ga helps us distinguish visits from different browsers. Its default lifetime is 2 years.
- _ga_KDR3Z8K7J2 is _ga_ followed by our property's code. It keeps track of a visit, known as a session. Its default lifetime is also 2 years.
- rft-cookie-consent-v2 is our consent record in localStorage, not a cookie. It holds your answer for analytics and your answer for maps, when you gave them, and a code for the version of this wording you answered. We use it for up to six months, and you can change it at any time. Clearing your browser data removes it. It is not sent to us.
The analytics cookies can be renewed on visits you have allowed. Your browser may remove them sooner. If your browser cannot save your choice, it applies on this page. We try to remove any earlier saved answer so other pages ask again. If that removal also fails, other pages may still use the earlier answer.
How long analytics information is kept
We keep user and event data in Google Analytics for 2 months. This retention period covers the detailed data; it does not apply to combined statistical reports, which Google can keep for longer. Cookie lifetimes are separate from this period. You can contact us about information already collected using our privacy request form.
When you send us an enquiry
The enquiry form asks for your name, your email address, your phone number and your message, so that we can get back to you whichever way suits you. When you press Submit, that is sent to us as an email and nothing else happens with it. It is not saved on the website, it does not go into a database, and it is not passed to a form service or a marketing tool.
Why we ask
So that we can answer you. We use your details to reply to your enquiry and to carry on the conversation about the work you are asking about. We do not add you to a mailing list and we do not send marketing.
What allows us to hold it
Your consent, which is what the tick box on the form is for. You can take that consent back at any time by emailing info@retrofoodtrucks.ie or by using the privacy request form. Taking it back does not undo anything we did while it was in place, and if we have gone on to do business together we may still need to keep records for as long as tax law requires.
Who sees it
The people at Retro Food Trucks who deal with enquiries, and nobody else. The form runs on the same hosting as this website, and your message is sent on from there to our mailbox. That mailbox is Google Workspace, so the message travels through the Google mail servers and sits on their systems, in the same way any email to us would. Apart from the company that hosts this website, Google is the only company involved in carrying it. We do not pass your enquiry to a form service, a CRM or a marketing tool, and we never sell or share it.
How long we keep it
For as long as we need it to deal with your enquiry and anything that follows from it. An enquiry that comes to nothing is cleared out once it is plainly finished with. Where an enquiry turns into an order, the records that go with that order are kept for as long as tax law requires us to keep them. If you would like your details removed sooner, ask us and we will.
When you phone or email us
If you ring, we do not record the call and we do not log your number beyond whatever your own phone shows us. If you email us directly, we hold that email on the same terms as an enquiry sent through the form.
Cookies
We explain our optional analytics cookies and your saved choices on the cookies page. Use Cookie settings to change your mind at any time. A map on our Contact page can bring Google's own cookies with it, but only if you have allowed maps or choose to load one.
Children
This site is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect information about anyone under 16. If you think a child has sent us something through the form, tell us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation you have the following rights over information we hold about you. They are all free to use, and we will answer within one month.
- To be told whether we hold anything about you at all.
- To see it, and to be given a copy.
- To correct it if it is wrong or incomplete.
- To have it erased. Sometimes called the right to be forgotten.
- To restrict what we do with it while a question about it is settled.
- To take it with you in a form another company can read.
- To object to us holding it.
- To withdraw consent you have given, at any time.
- Not to be subject to automated decision-making. We do not do any, so this one has nothing to bite on, but the right exists.
The quickest way to use any of these is the privacy request form. You can also just email info@retrofoodtrucks.ie, which reaches the same place. We may ask you to confirm who you are before we act, because handing someone else your information would be its own kind of failure.

Changes to this statement
If the site starts doing something new with your information, this page is updated before that happens, not afterwards, and the date at the top changes. If a change is a significant one we will say so plainly rather than quietly editing the wording.
